Jiro Persimmons
Jiro Persimmons
Jiro persimmons are completely sweet and are characterized by their crunchy texture. Their average sugar content is over 16 degrees, sometimes exceeding 20 degrees in late November. Jiro persimmons are a rare variety of persimmons, accounting for only 3% of the total shipments nationwide. The persimmons are also wrapped in special packaging using freshness-preserving film, allowing them to be kept longer than other persimmons.
FARM FACT: The farmer is located in the Shizuoka Prefecture and emphasizes on using organic fertilizers with minimal herbicides. The persimmons are grown on older trees that are more than 30 years, allowing the persimmons to have 2 to 3 degrees higher sugar content than that of young trees. The distance between the persimmon trees are planted wider than usual to allow better ventilation and the trees to receive more sunlight, producing more delicious persimmons.
